Intra-Oral Camera
The intraoral camera is a small handheld device that is approximately the size of a dental mirror. It has a built in light source and a tiny video camera that allows us to zoom in on one tooth at a time with 25 times magnification, or give you a video tour of your entire mouth.
An Intraoral camera allows our patients to be actively involved with their dental treatment. By having our patients look at their own oral images and clearly see the conditions present (such as a cracked tooth, a broken filling, plaque deposits or cavities) we help you greatly enhance your ability understand why treatment is recommended and make decisions with confidence. We can also print an image for you to take home with you.
The intraoral cameras also have the ability to use fluorescence to detect caries in fissures and smooth surfaces that may go unnoticed in X-ray images. Early detection means pinpointing problems at an earlier stage, which traditionally go undetected. This leads to more conservation and less tooth removal. We can also use them during the restorative phase to verify that all the decay has been removed.
